Founded in 1983 by Rupert Lang, the Vancouver Children's Choir, comprised of some 90 boys and girls, has received praise at a multitude of local music festivals, and placed second at the International Music Festival in Laangollen, Wales.
During its 23 year history, the VCC has enjoyed a variety of performance experience, from singing before Royalty, to civic and provincial functions, sound-track work for NBC, and back-up for notable artists such as Marvin Hamlisch, Judith Forst and the Vancouver Symphony. They have performed at Carnegie Hall in New York, and sung Mass at St. Peter's Cathedral in Rome.
VCC training is based first and foremost on a foundation of masterwork repertoire such as Geogian Chant, Bach, Mozart and Britten. A breadth of experience is provided through singing in many different languages; a variety of styles such as gospel, jazz, folk, Broadway, and newly commissioned works all help to give each member poise and maturity in their artistry.
