Alma Libre (Spanish for Free Soul) is an apt description of the dynamic group co-directed by Andre Stephen and Martin Simpson who discovered their mutual fascination with a new style of music called "Nouveau Flamenco." This was a relatively new form of music on the world scene being pioneered by bands such as the "Gypsy Kings" and "Strunz and Farah."

When performing as a band, Alma Libre is joined by some of Vancouver's finest and most versatile musicians, such as bass players Christ Tarry and March Rogers, percussionists Jack Duncan and Raphael Geronimo, drummers Randall Stoll and Phil Belanger, and Lou Mastroianni on keyboards.
